Title IV, Part A: Safe and Drug-FreeSchools and CommunitiesThe Safe and Drug-Free Schools and Communities Act supports programs to prevent violence in and around schools; prevent the illegal use of alcohol, drugs, and tobacco by young people; and foster a safe and drug-free learning environment that supports academic achievement.  Without a safe and orderly learning environment, teachers cannot teach and students cannot learn.  Students and school personnel need a secure environment, free from dangers and distractions of violence, drug use, and lack of discipline, in order to ensure that all children achieve to their full potential.

 

 

 

Under the Tennessee State Board of Education’s Unsafe School Choice Policy, any public school student who is the victim of a violent crime as defined under Tennessee Code Annotated 40-38-11(g), or the attempt to commit one of these offenses as defined under Tennessee Code Annotated 39-12-101, shall be provided an opportunity to transfer to another grade-level appropriate school within the district.
